Cityscape- Adobe
Illustrator

I created a vectorized image recreated in illustrator of the City Hall Building in Downtown Pittsburgh. The assignment specified that we had to recreate an actual building, but we could choose any color palette and background that we wanted.

The Ask

I was tasked with creating a vectorized illustration of a real-life building with proper perspective. I was allowed to change colors and atmosphere to create my own version of the building.

The Approach

I chose to use the City Hall Building in Downtown Pittsburgh for this project. The building was constructed in the Beaux Arts style, which really communicated a heaviness and appreciation for ancient ideals. I chose to recreate this building in an eerie and almost gothic style, in hopes to honor the beauty in the architecture

Process

The above image shows how the City Hall Building looks in real life. This is the picture I worked off of to create the illustration. The building itself is almost identical, aside from color. The buildings in the background take the shape of large, otherworldly crystals in the illustration, to match the gothic and gloomy theme.

The building in the illustration is being shown at the end of sunset, hence the sunset reflection off of the right windows. I also layered low opacity organic shapes in order to convey dark and gloomy fog while also creating some added dimension to the piece.
